What are PU pants made of?
PU stands for Polyurethane. PU is a soft plastic that is well suited for use as a coating on woven or knitted textiles, which can be used to create waterproof rain pants. The PU material is durable and free from environmentally harmful PFAS chemicals and PVC.
Unlike other rain pants where the waterproof coating or membrane is on the inside of the garment and the outer material needs a water-repellent finish, the rain protection is on the outermost layer of a pair of PU pants. This means that the fabric does not need any extra water-repellent treatment. The seams of PU pants are heat-sealed to become waterproof and the surface of PU pants is very smooth, allowing water to easily run off.
